Today I've repeatedly tried to open and run both the 32 and 64-bit versions of VueScan and haven't been able to get either of my machines to even acknowledge the presence of my old trusty HP ScanJet 5370C scanner. The suggestions given do not seem to work. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

You've probably tried to install and older version of the software, because the one released on the official page: 9.5.67 is fully compatible with the Windows 10 and Windows 8 software.
I recommend you to remove the current version installed on your PC and then download the latest one from the following link: https://www.hamrick.com/old-versions.html
To better clean the remains of the old version of VueScan, run the Registry tool from CCleaner.
I purchased Vuescan X64 3/22/2014 Standard Edition, however when I used it today, I was asked to purchase it. I scanned a picture and it had a watermark all over it.

All the registration issues should be handled by the developer of the application. He has the possibility to check the registration status of your license. It's possible that the license expired. I recommend contacting him using the email address found on the support page provided by them.
I have a Microtek MRS 2400 X12 and VueScan Scanmaker doesn't want to work with Windows 7. What should I do?

According to the official website, the VueScan Scanmaker application doesn't work with your scanner. You can check for supported models on the official website of VueScan. Additionally, you can download ScanWizard which is compatible with your scanner model. It works based on the the principle and offers almost the same features as VueScan.
